Compress files further before downloading them

To compress files or make them smaller simply drag them into this folder. To uncompress them or return them to their original state drag them out of the compressed folder. Compressed folders even support a password option, allowing you to use them as a place to store sensitive information. You should be careful when using this feature, however.

Hi all, I am needing to download some larger files, problem is that some of my sites have slow connections, so I would like to compress the files before or during download in order to speed up the process. I have been looking at the GZIPStream class but am not sure how to implement it or if it is even my best solution. GZIPStream is simple, the only thing is that your file will get to the client compressed and will need to be decompressed on the client side.

If you can afford to have your client decompress the files locally you should be ok. I usually compress the files on the server so when it needs to be downloaded it is already compressed and you also save storage space. The Witcher 2 is a around I'm sure they could compress it down even lower if they wanted. May depend on the game and the developer. Downloaded Skyrim again recently and it was 12 GB after download.
